Gilly’s been feeling guilty because it’s been a while since we posted anything and he knows his many fans are dying to know what he’s been up to. So to make it up to y’all, he put in some hard yards this morning, making this video which shows off all his latest moves. Enjoy!
Mr Snuffles is back amongst us, as poor Gilly has his first ever cold. He was very efficient, in that he came down with his cold the day before one of his regular visits to his pediatrician. He’s nothing if not thoughtful! I’ve been putting Vick’s Vapor Rub on my chest to help him stay unplugged as he’s trying to nurse, but the little guy still snuffles away. He’s not enjoying his new adventures with saline sprays and aspirators…hopefully this will all be behind us soon! Please send some healing thoughts the little guy’s way.
Well, it’s back to school time, and Gilly has joined in the spirit by starting classes. He attended his first official estimulación temprana class today, at UPI (Unidad de Pediatría Integral), where he is in the lactantes dos group. What does all that mean? It means that he gets to go to class for an hour at a time, 3 times a week (twice with Mom and once with Dad). At class we do wacky movements while singing songs, clamber around obstacle courses, play with cornmeal dough, read books and sometimes eat cake! Gilly seems to be enjoying it all, despite the one girl who is fascinated with his chupón, and the other one who likes to pet his big round fuzzy head. I think he actually enjoyed the head petting! I just hope he doesn’t get cranky around finals time.
Gilly turned 9 months old last Thursday. He’s now been out in the world for almost as long as he was in my belly! He’s crawling now, with more speed and coordination each day. He’s also learned to pull himself up onto his knees and occasionally onto his feet, all prompted by his discovery that there’s cool stuff on top of the coffee table, just waiting for him to get to it! Yesterday was a big day for the young man, as he got his first pair of shoes, so he’s now ready to take his standing act on the road, or at least to the local park. Now that he’s mobile, he’s no longer content to sit around playing with his toys. His favorite destination is wherever Jojo the dog is, with the power cords and cables to his dad’s computer coming in a close second, along with the dog water dish.
His mom and dad have been busy behind the scenes, with Dad fixing a few bugs on this website and Mom getting all his new books entered into his account on LibraryThing. The national children’s book fair is currently visiting Colima, so we were able to pick up a bunch of new Spanish language board books for him to enjoy.
Gilly’s been getting out and about around Colima for Saturday family fun, with a trip to the waterfall up in the mountains near Minatitlan, a climb up La Cumbre (a local foothill), and a visit to the zoo. Pictures from the first two outings can be seen in his 8 months gallery, and mostly-non-Gilly photos from La Cumbre can be seen here. We got rained out at the zoo, so don’t have any pictures featuring Gilly! Boo!
Gilly and his dad had a nice play at Skinner Butte Park in Eugene.
There’s not much to do in a motel room, except practice your mad pre-crawling skills! In this video from late July, we’ve captured one of Gilly’s wriggle sessions, as he works hard to get to (we thought!) the car keys.
Gilly may not enjoy the loud train whistles that interrupt his naps here in Colima, or the sight and sound of the big engines rolling through the valley at Tolland, but put him on a train his size, like the Zoo Train at the Washington Park Zoo in Portland, and he’s a happy, if not safety conscious, little guy!
Gilly’s 7 months gallery is now complete. It’s a bit cheaty, as we left Colorado the day after he turned 8 months, but all of the photos from the Colorado portion of his vacation have been put in this one gallery anyway. Yay consistency!
We started using baby signs with Gilly about a week or so ago. Right away he was very interested in watching what I was doing with my hands while signing. So far I’ve been using the signs for eat, drink, diaper, book, more, “all done” and up. Today he began to repeat the sign for up back to me after I signed it to him. It will be interesting to see how we go from here!
Gilbert has returned from his big vacation. He got to see most of his US based relatives and travel by plane, train and automobile. Well, the train was a zoo train, but it still counts! Highlights of the trip for him were the exersaucer and new toys he found at his grandmom’s house, taking nature walks in the Colorado mountains and riding the zoo train at the Washington Park Zoo in Oregon. While on vacation he learned to wave at people, to point at things, and to get himself up into a sitting position from lying down. He’s also traveling greater distances at faster speeds while on his tum tum, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s crawling. We have lots of pictures of his adventures which will gradually be uploaded as I find the time.
